Variable binding and substitution for (nameless) dummies

چکیده
Abstract By abstracting over well-known properties of De Bruijn’s representation with nameless dummies, we design a new theory syntax variable binding and capture-avoiding substitution. We propose it as simpler alternative to Fiore, Plotkin, Turi’s approach, which establish strong formal link. also show that our easily incorporates simple types equations between terms.

The Soundness of Explicit Substitution with Nameless Variables
We show the soundness of a-calculus B where de Bruijn indices are used, substitution is explicit, and reduction is step-wise. This is done by interpreting B in the classical calculus where the explicit substitution becomes implicit and de Bruijn indices become named variables. This is the rst at semantics of explicit substitution and step-wise reduction and the rst clear account of exactly when...
متن کاملSubstitution in non-wellfounded syntax with variable binding
Inspired from the recent developments in theories of non-wellfounded syntax (coinductively defined languages) and of syntax with binding operators, the structure of algebras of wellfounded and non-wellfounded terms is studied for a very general notion of signature permitting both simple variable binding operators as well as operators of explicit substitution. This is done in an extensional math...

A personal survey of the abortion problem in Britain, based on articles in The Observer. Paul Ferris sets out the present situation clearly for the layman and gives case-histories which are often moving. He makes it clear that the existing law is archaic and socially unjust. Abortion is very much a mental health problem and psychiatrists have recently been used as a scapegoat, because society w...
متن کاملEpistemic Modality for Dummies∗
Epistemic modals are interesting in part because their semantics is bound up both with our information about the world and with how that information changes as we share what we know. Given that epistemical modals are dependent in some way on the information available in the contexts in which they are used, it’s not surprising that there is a minor but growing industry of work in semantics and t...
متن کاملHausdorff Dimension For Dummies
phenomena in two dimensions. I spent most of the academic years 2013-2015 in Bonn, Germany (at the Max-Planck Institut and then the Hausdorff Center). In general, the Hausdorff dimension of a product is at least the sum of the dimensions of the two spaces. Does equality hold if one space is Euclidian? So let be. I find this discussion in Wikipedia very good: Fractal dimension Imagine a particul...
